Methadone
Detox/Maintenance
Systematic
Procedure For Failure
Methadone
may be broken into two similar words; method and done. Method
means: a systematic procedure; or process for doing something.
Done means: doomed to failure or defeat or death; exhausted. How
ironic have these two definitions become? A systematic procedure
for failure!
Methadone
(VA10820, Amidon, and Dolophine) as it is known today, was invented
during World War II by German scientists Bockmuhl and Ehrhart.
Va10820 as it was originally code named was discovered during
clinical trials with synthetic opiates. The primary purpose of
the studies was to produce effective synthetic-opioid-based narcotics
in order to eliminate dependence upon other countries for the
narcotic pain reliever “morphine. The name morphine comes
from the Greek god of dreams, “Morpheus.” Then in
1942, Va10820 was dubbed Amidon for clinical studies within the
German military. Soon after World War II ended in Europe on May
8th 1945 most of Germany’s pharmaceutical patents and their
respective scientists fell into the hands of the US Department
of Commerce. In 1947, Va10820 was renamed by the American Medical
Association as “Methadone.” Later that year Eli Lilly
began commercial production of methadone under the name Dolophine.
The origin of Dolophine is derived from the Latin words; dolor
meaning “pain” and phine meaning “end.”
So Methadone (a systematic procedure for failure) became Dolophine
(the end of pain). A better name to market their most valuable
product.
Even
though methadone had its origins in combating human suffering,
many opiate addicts have become methadone addicts. Many opiate
addicts believe that methadone gets you “high.” And
that directly contradicts the claims of methadone advocacy groups
like; The American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence,
Inc. Until recently, most methadone addicts believed that to successfully
withdraw from a methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) program
you needed to return to heroin. That was because methadone withdrawals
are more acute and last much longer than heroin withdrawals. Since
2003, Suboxone Detox Protocol has become an effective treatment
for methadone withdrawal symptoms; Suboxone Detox is virtually
a Pain
Free Methadone Detox.
